Vols Football Primer: Games to watch this weekend

We are only a week away from the Vols’ season-opener against Virginia inside Nissan Stadium. While Tennessee won’t grace your TV screens this weekend, there are still plenty of games to watch to get your football fix ahead of Sept. 2.

Let’s take a moment to check out the top games to watch on Saturday.

Navy @ Notre Dame – 2:30 p.m. on NBC

Week 0 starts off with Navy at Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have claimed 10 of the last 11 in the series with Notre Dame claiming a 35-32 victory last season. Ranked No. 13, Notre Dame has an opportunity to start off strong if they can cover the 20.5-point FanDuel spread. Don’t expect this one to be fireworks, but this will be an opportunity to see Sam Hartman’s first game in a Notre Dame jersey.

Hawai’i @ Vanderbilt – 7:30 p.m. on SEC Network

Who can forget the 63-10 thrashing that Vanderbilt put on Hawai’i last season. While it was certainly an outlier (the Commodores ended the season 5-7 with two of those wins coming against Kentucky and Florida), it’s our first chance to see an SEC game this year. FanDuel’s current spread sits at -17 in favor of Vandy.

San Jose State @ USC – 8 p.m. on Pac 12 Network

Who doesn’t want to watch the 2022 Heisman open the season? While USC is favored by 30.5 points, this is an opportunity to end the night off with a glimpse of things to come from one of the favorites to make the playoffs. Following the trend of the day, don’t expect this one to be close.
